Plaisted’s Amendment for Sandy Soil is a blend of screened soil, composted pine bark, organic compost, and fibrous coarse peat. The screened soil slows water from running through the sand, while the composted pine bark creates air space. Organic compost adds organic matter, improving soil quality, and coarse fibrous peat provides maximum water-holding capacity, retaining nutrients for plants.
Sandy soil is often too porous, causing water to run through it. Mixing Plaisted’s Amendment 50/50 with native soil significantly improves soil conditions for growing. This mix transforms porous sandy areas into productive growing environments by retaining water for the roots and creating a “Transition Zone” for trees and shrubs.
